Upon retiring from the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, where she served as the State Equine Marketing Specialist for 25 years, Mary Ellen started at Companion Animal Hospital in June of 2010. A Blythewood area resident for 35 years, Mary Ellen and her husband owned and operated Ashley Oaks Farms where she bred, raised and trained Registered American Quarter Horses. In addition, she has raised Registered Polled Hereford cattle, a few Nubian goats, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and very spoiled dogs and cats (thrown in for good measure).
She is still actively involved in the state’s equine industry, serving on numerous boards and advisory committees as well as serving as a consultant on equine issues. Mary Ellen’s other interests include gourmet cooking and catering, gardening, and traveling anywhere horses or snow skiing are available. Her love of all animals, great and small, and her marketing abilities are a welcome addition to our group.
